It was announced this week that the Green Car of the Year was the Honda Civic natural gas. The Honda model beat off opposition from hybrid and electric counterparts.
There were five finalists in the running and these were;
- Ford Focus electric
- Honda Civic natural gas
- Mitsubishi i
- Toyota Prius v
- Volkswagen Passat TDI
Winning Entry
The winning entry boasts a 38 MPG on the highway and features Eco Assist and a selectable ECON feature to enhance the vehicles environmental efficiency. This is combined with fast-fills, able to fill the tank in five minutes at gas stations that offer natural gas, it can also be time-filled at home overnight. This home filling needs a wall mounted appliance available from BRC fuel maker. It is the cleanest running internal combustion vehicle according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after they had certified the vehicle.
Not Cheap
At $26,155 this is not a cheap car to buy at the start of the process although the fuel is 30% less than gasoline, the fuel is also domestically sourced. The Honda Civic Natural Gas can manage around 240 miles on a full tank of the compressed natural gas, nearly two and a half times the 100 mile range that the electric cars can offer. This can bring the working costs down.
