If you’re planning a big move, you need to take into account wear and tear in physical movement. It’s natural to worry about an irreplaceable family item or other important materials. The best removalists on Earth can’t really do much more than try to do the best they can. At the packing end, however, you can get a lot done. Packing for a big move is like car insurance- it’s a matter of figuring out what’s best for your needs, and predicting costs.
The Golden Rule
The absolute rule when packing for major moves is “Don’t take chances”. More packing and more protective packing is always better. Pack everything so you’re absolutely sure it’s safe to move to Mars if necessary.
You will need:
- Good strong containers, and plenty of them
- Inner containers suitable for your materials
- Masking tape
- Bubble wrap
- Shredded paper or “beanbag” packing materials
- Airtight bags for clothes and linen
- Tarpaulins or other forms of cover for big items
Don’t get put off by what looks like a major packing job. When you get your materials organized, you’ll find you can get a lot done.
The key to big moves- Planning ahead
The first thing you need to do is to organize and plan your packing. The planning process needs to identify everything and how it’s going to be packed. (The planning is also very like getting car insurance quotes: The sooner you know what’s involved, the quicker you can make decisions.)
The considerations for packing are:
- Furniture : Furniture must be covered for long journeys. Tarpaulins, bubble wrap, and corner covers are required. This reduces impact and abrasion effects while traveling.
- Clothes : Clothing needs to be carefully packed in strong boxes, and further packed in well organized groupings for each family member.
- Kitchen and bathroom : These materials must be carefully packed. All electrical equipment and crockery should be packed to a professional standard, using bubble wrap and shock absorbing materials.
